President Uhuru Kenyatta has declared a national prayer weekend running from Friday, through to Sunday. State House spokesperson Kanze Dena urged Kenyans to pray for the country in their usual places of worship in compliance with Covid-19 containment measures.
The president will lead an interfaith service at State House, Nairobi on Saturday from 10a.m. The event will be broadcast live through top Tv stations, radio and other digital platforms.
The event set to cover the entire weekend will be the second [national prayers] since the coronavirus struck in March 2020 after a similar one was held on March 21.
The clerics who attended the first version held at State House identified eleven key points as prayer items including;
1. Prayer for those infected by Covid-19 in Kenya and their relatives
2. For those who lost their lives around the world due to Covid-19
3. For strength and healing of fear due to the pandemic
4. For other National calamities and challenges
5. For those suffering terminal illness such as cancer, HIV/Aids
6. For all health providers and workers and researchers
7. Resilience and tolerance of all Kenyans
8. For patience and courage
9. For true unity of Kenyans and promotion of harmony and brotherhood
10. For all healing of the nation, overcoming coronavirus and recovery for good health
11. For the prosperity of the nation, for promotion of social and economic values
The Saturday event comes when the country has relaxed most of Covid-19 restrictions including reopening of bars and schools.
At the same time, the president’s plate is full with the warring factions of his Jubilee Party in a nasty war to kick out the Deputy President William Ruto. This is after the country’s second in command stormed the party headquarters in Pangani in company of over thirty Mps allied to his Tanga Tanga faction.
During the meeting, Dp vowed that he will work at the party offices at least twice a week and those who can’t ‘stomach’ it should move to Orange House.
He was referring to the likes of Party secretary Raphael Tuju, Vice Chairman David Murathe, Nyeri Town Mp Ngunjiri Wambugu and other Kieleweke sympathizers who have declared support for ODM’s Raila Odinga’s presidency.
At the same time, Uhuru is yet to make a decision on Advisory by the Chief Justice David Maraga to dissolve the parliament for failing to implement 2/3 gender rule.
