Deputy President William Ruto has told the BBI proponents to prioritise the needs of ordinary people (Hustlers) before engaging on talks of expanding the executive.
Ruto said focussing on positions for a few leaders while ignoring the plight of millions of Kenyans living in poverty is unfair.
He said ODM leader Raila Odinga’s calls to create positions that add no value to lives of the people should play second fiddle.
The country’s second in command said Kenya has moved away from tribal politics to politics of empowerment to transform their lives.
He challenged ‘handshakers’ and BBI drummers to direct their energy on addressing the various challenges affecting ordinary citizens.
Ruto was speaking in Igembe South and Tigania West Constituencies in Meru County where he inspected government projects and led several empowerment programmes.
He was accompanied by Senator Mithika Linturi (Meru), Mp John Paul Mwirigi (Igembe South), Gichunge Kabeabea (Tigania East), John Mutunga (Tigania West), Rindikiri Mugambi (Buuri), Raheem Dawood (North Imenti), Beatrice Nkatha (Tharaka Nithi), Rehema Jaldesa (Woman Rep, Isiolo), Cecily Mbarire of Embu, Aisha Jumwa (Malindi), Lydiah Haika (Taita Taveta), Mary Seneta (nominated), Didmus Barasa (Kimilili), Moses Kuria (Gatundu South), Nimrod Mbai (Kitui East), Kimani Ichungwa (Kikuyu), George Theuri (Embakasi West) and Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira).
At the same time, the Deputy President said the Government was working on addressing the challenges facing miraa farmers.
He said that the state was working on modalities to address the challenges facing miraa farmers and traders from the region.
Ruto also added that the state has set aside Sh1 billion to improve road networks in Maua.
Odinga is a strong supporter of BBI, a product of his handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta that aims to create the position of a Prime Minister with two deputies.
On top of that, Odinga also wants the creation of another tier of government, 8 regional governments to maintain the support of retiring governors who want to run for presidency or switch to Dp Ruto.
The unpopular idea to create a third tier of government has also been trashed by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
