Security lapse as DP Ruto is slapped in Mathioya – Photos

The Deputy President William Ruto’s message of division in Central Kenya was met with resistance as a man reached to slap him when he was leaving Rurii stadium in Mathioya, Nyeri County.

The man who was later neutralized by the DP’s security is said to have been let go scott-free. Photos shared by Standard Group shows a young man reaching for the DP.

The stadium was not filling up as DP Ruto wanted so he opted for a roadshow.

Commenting on the incident, Office of the Deputy President Communications Secretary David Mugonyi denied there was an attempt to attack Dr Ruto.

Radicalising youths

Jubilee deputy party chairman David Murathe had warned that DP Ruto is inciting youths in the region to violence.

“We feel that the Deputy President is on a radicalisation mission in Mt Kenya and we are cautioning our people. We used to have Mungiki in Central region… Now when you bring this narrative of the ‘haves and haves not’, that was the Mungiki philosophy…,” Murathe said.

Murathe also criticised the DP’s empowerment movement geared towards the youth and women.

“Whatever we are seeing him doing in the Mt Kenya region, he should be doing that in the Rift Valley and we see it. There is something which is not adding up about the script that they are running up in the Mt Kenya region.”
