Switzerland winger Xherdan Shaqiri has tested positive for COVID-19 just a day after the 28 year old who plays for Liverpool rejoined the national team for the first time in over one year.
Shaqiri who last featured for Switzerland in the Nations League finals in June last year had arrived at the team hotel on Monday afternoon ahead of a friendly match against Croatia at home.
The SFV said the player has been put in isolation as they clarify how to proceed with the local health authorities.
Contracting covid-19 is a major blow to the player who has fallen out with Liverpool where his team mates, Sadio Mane and Thiago Alcantara also tested positive last week.
Shaqiri only featured in seven Premier League games last season, starting two of them but has only featured in game in the current campaign in the Carabao Cup.
One year ago, he requested to be left out of the national duty to concentrate on his club football and had not been included since then until this recall.
