The Kamba political arch-rivals, the former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu have found a place in the BBI document to bury their hatchet after an on and off feud since 2007.
The two recently met in Nairobi with a host of Kitui Mps to hoodwink the Kamba people that they are about unity.
Kalonzo and Ngilu are not supporting the BBI document because it has something substantial for the Kamba people. They only feared the wrath of political machineries enjoyed by handshake partners, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Kalonzo is soothing the system to pave way for his sons into politics while Ngilu is supporting BBI to keep anti-graft authorities at bay. The Kitui Governor is tainted with massive corruption.
Former governors like Kiambu’s Ferdinand Waititu and Nairobi’s Mike Sonko were impeached by the same senate that saved Anne Waiguru of over the same charges. The corrupt Waiguru is pro BBI too.
Kalonzo and Ngilu who have no reason to back BBI are busy at this late stage calling for the creation of more parliamentary seats in Kitui when the additional seats have been handed to Central, Rift Valley and Kakamega.
The two ‘blind leaders’ never made same demands before the report was completed.
BBI will split Raila Odinga’s constituency it into two, gift Kisumu County with one then close the Nyanza chapter.
But this is not the first time the two leaders are burying their hatch, they will still end at war paths over Kamba supremacy and bury it again when supporting any agenda from outside the region.
Even Kambas in their villages are surprised that Kalonzo and Ngilu are calling for constituencies based on geographical size and population.
Kitui leaders led by Governor Ngilu are arguing that Kitui county with its population of 1.14 million people according to the 2019 census and its vast land area of 30,570 square kilometres deserves more constituencies.
The 10 legislators who accompanied Ngilu to Nairobi were drawn from the Wiper, Jubilee and Chama cha Uzalendo parties.
“We are also supporting the document as it has increased the representation of women in the national assembly, the senate and the county assemblies,” they said in a joint statement.
Ngilu is only using Kalonzo, a former VP who hails from Mwingi (Machakos County) and commands a more influential voice in the Kamba region to spearhead the talks with other national leaders to fix their demands in the BBI resolutions.
