Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua told off Tiaty Member of Parliament (MP) William Kamaket over his request to President William Ruto to have police officers deployed to his constituencies withdrawn.
Speaking during a church service in Baringo county on Sunday, November 13, Gachagua told Kamket that the officers will not be withdrawn not unless peace is restored in the constituency.
The DP explained that the banditry attacks have become a menace and called on the lawmaker to first call his house to order
“Those officers in Tiati are there because they have work to do. The only way to remove them is for you as the leaders in the region to sit and agree on how those in possession of guns have returned them.
“Before the guns are returned, we will not withdraw them. That will be impossible,” Gachagua declared while his boss was seated.
With talks of insecurity in the North Rift dominating the service, Baringo Woman Representative Florence Jematia blatantly told Kamket that reaching a permanent resolution on the matter lay with him.
“Only Kamket can best help us solve this menace because he is privy to the individuals who carry out those attacks, but I believe we can all work together as MPs from Baringo,” Jematia stated.
President Ruto came to the rescue of the KANU man, who has found refuge in the Kenya Kwanza camp, insisting that he was a peace lover and was only being coerced.
However, he maintained that the government would be ruthless in dealing with insecurity.
“Kamket is a leader who wants peace but is being pushed by individuals who blackmailed him with their support during the elections but that period is over
“The issue of disrupting peace and issuing guns to residents must stop. They will either do it voluntarily or by force, there are no two ways about it,” Ruto stated.
The head of state assured the residents that life in the region will be restored to normalcy including the reopening of schools which were closed over security concerns.
Ruto encouraged the leaders from the region to hold talks and find a long-lasting solution and promote peaceful co-existence among locals.
