Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndidi Nyoro has claimed that Mount Kenya region will be highly affected should the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Bill pass.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Wednesday, May 13, 2021, Nyoro argued that the extra constituencies that has been proposed in the BBI Bill for the Mount Kenya Region will still share the KSh 290 billion allocations noting that the BBI bill does not propose an increment of the revenue allocation for Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

He noted that if the number of constituencies is increased by 70, from 290 to 360, they will be forced to share the 290 billion.

“People of Mt.kenya region have been taken for a ride that we are the biggest beneficiary of the 70 additional constituencies; it is not true, we are the ones who will be hit the most if BBI passes,” he lamented.

The Kiharu legislator also stated that there are 290 constituencies each of which is being allocated slightly above KSh. 100 000 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) fund every year.

He further revealed that a total of KSh 290 billion is hence allocated for all the constituencies in the country.

The lawmaker claimed that the allocation per constituency will reduce from KSh 100 million to KSh 80 million that is 290 billion divides by 360.

According to Nyoro, the the proposal in the BBI Bill will see each of the six constituencies get KSh 80 million instead of the current KSh 100 million which would result in a combined loss of KSh 120 million.

“Mt. Kenya region is actually losing through
the BBI in terms of the aggregate constituencies and the amount that will be
going to those constituencies,” Nyoro said.
