The embattled Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko broke his silence after being arrested in Voi.
Sonko’s apprehension came hours after orders from DPP Noordin Haji over corruption allegations.
EACC had confirmed that the governor was arrested at a roadblock in the area as he tried to escape.
The statement by the anti-corruption body was justified after a video emerged of the flashy politician resisting to be taken into custody by the anti-corruption body detectives.
The controversial leader affirmed that he was indeed on his way to Mombasa as reported by several media platforms.
Governor Sonko noted that he was travelling to the Coastal town to attend an official function.
“I was on my way to Mombasa to attend and close a workshop which was attended by my people,” Sonko stated.
He clarified that he was not on the run as he had nowhere to go.
“Why would l run away? To where and to do what? I am a Kenyan who is always on the move
doing what’s good for the people,” declared the County Boss.
The problem-laden city boss moved to assure his supporters that the current situation was a temporary one.
The vocal Jubilee party member articulated that there was no reason for panic.
Sonko added that, “I stand for justice and I am more than ready for the court process where I will unleash my armoury against these conspirators.
“As a matter of fact, my quest for justice that puts EACC on the spot over land grabbing will
remain on course.”
The ex-Nairobi Senator pointed out that this was a political witchhunt which he would not allow to prevail.
“I assure everyone that I shall not be intimidated and won’t be moved an inch into some political traps,” muttered the politician.
The troubled leader from the ruling party highlighted that,
“Given the fact that we are headed to court, I will not bother you with insights of what I believe is the real story against the shallow work from EACC and its accomplices in this mission.”
Haji affirmed Sonko and his accomplices are set to face charges for the loss of Ksh 357 million, Ksh 290 million and Ksh 299 million county funds.
The move was orchestrated a day after the court turned down the application from the leader to have the EACC barred from investigating him.
The high court through Justice John Onyiego, ruled that his request could not merit the issuance of interim orders to block the probe.
Onyiego, however, remarked that his application case was set to be heard on Dec 9.
