A legal fight is brewing as the outgoing legislators try to wrestle with the currently registered officials over the control of the new party.
The Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) has been the new kid on the block with immense popularity in the Western, Nyanza and parts of Nairobi regions.
Hon. Wafula Wamunyinyi and Hon. Eseli Simiyu of Kanduyi and Tongaren constituencies respectively have associated themselves with the new party since their removal from Ford Kenya Party over gross misconduct.
However, the two legislators who only registered as ordinary DAP-K members on the deadline day have since been crafting to take over control of the party which has mainly been bankrolled by Devolution Cabinet Minister Eugene Wamalwa with the help of loyal party officials.
This would be detrimental to the party even after all the effort put in by the Cabinet minister and current office bearers.
Wanyinyi faction is said to be fighting for DAP-K party management through backdoor and intimidation attempts to throw out gazetted officials by the Registrar of political parties.
Wamunyinyi and Eseli fight to take over DAP-K party leadership is however unprocedural since it is not sanctioned by the party’s National Delegates Conference (NDC) resolutions even as it happens just three days after the two MPs registered as party members.
DAP-K Secretary General Bernard Masanja is however adamant and vows to defend his position and that of all other party officials from unprocedural ouster.
“We will not be cowed, we will not relent and let our party go to people with only personal interests”, declared Masanja.
Sources opined the two are salivating to spend millions netted from nominations to run their personal parliamentary campaigns.
