Francis Atwoli responds after his Kileleshwa road signage was set a blaze – Kenyan_Report

COTU secretary general Francis Atwoli has responded following an ugly incident in which a road sign in Kileleshwa re-named after him was yesterday set on fire by unknown criminals.

This after photos of the road signage on did rounds online on social media covered in old tyres, and pieces of wood and newspapers.

Another caption of the signage captured it all in flames on a dark background an indication that it was done at night. it is still unclear who was responsible for vandalizing it once again.

On the Contrary, the COTU Boss took to Twitter stating that, “Bringing down an honorary road signage under my name does not hurt me.”

He added that, “On the flip side, it will haunt, for life, those who are behind it. For how does it benefit them? How do you sleep at night knowing you are a vandal?”

The trade unionist noted that he is known world over and it does not require a road sign for people to know whom Francis Atwoli is.

“The name will live in posterity taking into account my years of selfless service to the workers in Kenya and the world. If anything the signage was just an act of honour bestowed to me by Nairobians taking into account my many years of service.”

The formerly Dik Dik road was re-named after the COTU chief last month by the Nairobi County governor Anne Kananu, amid public outrage.

“This road has been renamed after my good friend and brother bwana Francis Atwoli in recognition of his selfless contribution and agitating for the rights of Kenyan workers in the last 54 years,” said Kananu.

This was a second time the road was being vandalized after it had earlier been brought down by unknown criminals, and was re-erected by the Nairobi County government later on.

After a while CCTV was reportedly installed to prevent goons from commit the act again, with activist Boniface Mwangi later alleging that the CCTV in question were actually goons stationed there by Atwoli himself.

“If you think you came from the moon go try to remove it again,” Atwoli slammed.
“I am really grateful for this kind gesture. No one has honoured me in this way.

Thank you, madam Governor,” Atwoli appreciated the kind gesture by Nairobi Governor Anne Kananu at the time of launching the road.
