Kenei’s body to be viewed at Umash on Thursday

The body of police Sergeant Kipyegon Kenei will be moved for viewing at Umash Funeral home in Nakuru County Thursday, ahead his burial on Saturday at Chemasisi in Lower Solai, the family has said.

Family and friends who met at a hotel in Nakuru Tuesday evening unanimously resolved that the remaions of Kenei will be viewed at the funeral home on Thursday.

This comes as the police continue to unravel the mystery surrounding his death as it continues to emerge that the killers made every effort to cover their traces.

Postmortem reveals Sergeant Kipyegon Kenei’s cause of death

Detectives say that the killing was ‘well-managed’ after they discovered that the data from the slain officers phone was flushed to make it impossible to trace the people he contacted last before he was killed.

The killers also deleted his social media accounts and the suicide note found in his house is to be bearing a handwriting that is not his own.

The note said ‘call my cousin Ben and brother’ but the police has discovered that Kenei was not in contact with the said relatives and it was the killers ploy to mislead investigating officers.

“Everything was planned to make it look like suicide, including sending money to his family and leaving behind a suicide note but this is a clear case of murder,” one detective said.

Detectives left for Nakuru on tuesday to interrogate family and  other parties of interest. This was after Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor said that the Kenei died in his house at Nairobi’s Imara Daima estate.

Autopsy revealed that he died from a single gunshot but detectives have not confirmed any arrests since.

Kenei burial plans are still in limbo because traditionally, an officer who commits suicide is never accorded gun salute and other honors. There are also two burial committees at his Chemasisi Village.

National Police Service Director of Communications , Charles Owino, on Tuesday said the Rift Valley regional commander, Marcus Ocholla, is leading slain sergeant’s burial plans.
