Kenya’s Covid-19 positivity rate at 8pc as 334 test positive – KBC

The Ministry of Health has recorded 334 new Covid-19 cases from a sample size of 4,155 tested in the last 24 hours bringing the positivity rate to 8.0%.

From the cases 329 are Kenyans while 5 are foreigners with 206 being males and 128 females. The youngest is a 28 day-old-infant while the oldest is 104 years.

In a statement Thursday, Health Cabinet Secretary Senator Mutahi Kagwe noted that the total confirmed positive cases are now 164,720 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 1,733,500.

Distribution of positive cases by age is as follows; 0-9 years (15), 10-19 years (17), 20-29 years (59), 30-39 years (83), 40-49 years (56), 50-59 years (44), 60 and above (60).

In terms of County distribution; Nairobi 81, Meru 39, Kisumu 37, Busia 24, Nakuru 16, Siaya, Mombasa and Kilifi 11 cases each, Kiambu and Homa Bay 10 cases each, Kitui 9, Uasin Gishu and Makueni 8 cases each, Bomet, Embu and Kajiado 7 cases each, Nyeri 6, Kericho 5, Kakamega,

Migori and Nandi 4 cases each, Garissa, Kisii and Kirinyaga 2 cases each, Kwale, Laikipia, Lamu, Murang’a, Taita Taveta, Tharaka Nithi, West Pokot, Bungoma and Isiolo 1 case each.

In terms of Sub County distribution; the 81 cases in Nairobi are from Makadara and Roysambu (9) cases each, Kibra and Westlands (7) cases each, Ruaraka (6), Embakasi West, Kasarani and Langata (5) cases each, Embakasi Central, East, North, South and Kamukunji (4) cases each, Mathare (3), Dagoretti North and Starehe (2) cases each, Dagoretti South (1).

In Meru the 39 cases are from Imenti North (22), Igembe Central (12), Buuri (2), Igembe North, Imenti Central and South (1) case each. In Kisumu the 37 cases are from Kisumu Central (20), Kisumu East (8), Muhoroni, Nyakach,Nyando and Seme (2) cases each, Kisumu West (1). In Busia the 24 cases are from Matayos (22), Teso North and South (1) case each.

In Nakuru the 16 cases are from Naivasha (5), Nakuru West (5), Nakuru East (3), Kuresoi North, Njoro and Rongai (1) case each. In Siaya the 11 cases are from Alego Usonga (8), Rarieda (3). In Mombasa the 11 cases are from Mvita (4), Likoni and Nyali (3) cases each, Changamwe (1). In Kilifi the 11 cases are from Malindi (5), Magarini (4), Kaloleni and Kilifi North (1) case each.

In Kiambu the 10 cases are from Lari and Ruiru (3) cases each, Githunguri, Kabete, Kiambaa and Thika (1) case each. In Homa Bay the 10 cases are from Karachuonyo (4), Homa

Bay Town (2), Mbita, Ndhiwa, Rachuonyo South and Rangwe (1) case each.

In Kitui the 9 cases are from Mwingi Central (3), Kitui West and Mwingi North (2) cases each, Kitui Central and Rural (1)case each. In Uasin Gishu the 8 cases are from Kapseret and Turbo (3) cases each, Ainabkoi and Kesses (1) case each.

In Makueni the 8 cases are from Makueni (7) and Mbooni (1); In Bomet the 7 cases are from Chepalungu and Konoin (2)cases each, Bomet Central, East, and Sotik (1) case each. In Embu all the 7 cases are from Manyatta, while in Kajiado the 7 cases are from Kajiado North (3), Loitokitok and Kajiado East (2) cases each. In Nyeri the 6 cases are from Nyeri Central (3), Kieni East, Mathira East and Mukurweini (1) case each.

In Kericho the 5 cases are from Belgut (3), Ainamoi and Bureti (1) case each. In Kakamega the 4 cases are from Butere, Likuyani, Mumias East and West (1) case each. In Migori the 4 cases are from Rongo (2), Kuria West and Suna East (1) case each. In Nandi the 4 cases are from Emgwen (3) and Nandi Hills (1). The 2 cases in Garissa are from Dadaab and Garissa Town (1) case each, the 2 cases in Kisii are from Kitutu Chache South and Bomachoge South (1) case each, while all the 2 cases in Kirinyaga are from Kirinyaga Central.

The case in Kwale is from Msambweni, the case in Laikipia is from Laikipia East, the case in Lamu is from Lamu West, the case in Murang’a is from Kigumo, the case in Taita Taveta is from Taveta, the case in Tharaka Nithi is from Tharaka South, the case in West Pokot is from Pokot South, the case in Bungoma is from Kanduyi and the case in Isiolo is from Isiolo Town.

The CS noted that 124 patients have recovered from the disease, 85 from the Home Based and Isolation Care while 39 are from various health facilities countrywide. Total recoveries now stand at 113,248 of whom 82,298 are from Home Based Care and Isolation, while 30,950 are from various health facilities.

Unfortunately, 18 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, 15 having occurred on diverse dates within the last one month and 3 are late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits. This now pushes the cumulative fatalities to 2,968.
