Detectives intend to question prominent blogger and Deputy President William Ruto’s digital strategist Dennis Itumbi about his alleged kidnapping and torture.
A squad investigating the matter said it is waiting for Itumbi to heal in the hospital and be ready to speak before requesting his statement.
The squad will also speak with witnesses who witnessed the incident outside a barbershop on Christmas Eve in Thindigwa, Kiambu county.
These interviews will provide them with a clear picture of what happened. The crew has not yet arrived at the location of the event. They stated that their efforts to track down an automobile claimed to have been used in the kidnapping were futile.
According to authorities, the vehicle details provided by witnesses do not match those in official records.
“It will be important to hear from him (Itumbi), not his friends or politicians. We will wait for that moment because much will come out in the direction of the probe and motive,” a senior officer aware of the probe said
Itumbi has been a pain in the flesh of high government officials, whom he has labelled as land thieves. He’s been calling a top police officer “a puppet” and tagging his targets on social media.
According to police spokesman Bruno Shioso, an investigation is underway to determine the purpose and individuals responsible for the event.
“We appeal to members of the public to be patient during the investigations and should therefore desist from speculation. We further appeal to members of the public who may have information regarding the incident to volunteer and report to any police station or through our hotline number 999,112 or 0800 722203,” Shioso. said.
Itumbi is still in the hospital after being discovered with injuries following a violent kidnapping. Those who saw him on Saturday said that he is chatting, in good spirits, and not in any danger.
Itumbi was kidnapped on Thursday and assaulted before being dumped nude on the side of the road in Kasarani’s Lucky Summer neighbourhood. He was discovered by a taxi driver with injuries to the majority of his body. He was admitted to the hospital on Friday morning.
