Migori county speaker has been booked and investigations against him launched after his clande allegedly attacked and injured a security guard-soja.
Migori assembly speaker Boaz Okoth and two assistants are being investigated in Kisumu for suspected assault and gun violence. They are accused of assaulting and injuring Bonmike Odiwuor, a caretaker of Pipeline Houses in Milimani Estate.
Okoth, who was accompanied by a woman and aides, reportedly refused to pay in full for the flat they had reserved. They had reserved the flat for four days, from Monday to Thursday, at a cost of Sh10,000 each day. Okoth had paid for three days, with the remainder due on the day of checkout.
Later after the incident, one of his aides paid Sh9,000 via Mpesa and not Sh10,000. A witness said Okoth’s aide allegedly threatened Odiwuor with a gun. Odiwuor, 23, reported the incident at Kisumu Central Police Station. “Do you know I can kill you? The aide who had the gun shouted at me,” Odiwuor said.
He said he was punched and collapsed while attempting to unlock the hotel entrance for Boaz Okoth and his aides as they checked out. Odiwuor was injured in his cheek, head, chest, and knee. He was rushed to Kisumu County Referral Hospital and treated before being discharged.
According to medical records, including the P3 form, Odiwuor claims to have been assaulted by a person he knows. According to eyewitnesses, one of the aides pulled a gun, cocked it, and fired a shot into the air.
“We visited the scene and established that there was no shooting,” he said. Ngetich said that they took the gun which is in their custody. If there was a shooting we would have arrested those involved,” Kisumu OCPD James Ngetich denied the shooting incident.
The matter is being investigated,” he said Okoth and aides also reported a case at Kisumu Central Police Station. The apartment owner Martha Owuor said Okoth owes her more than Sh160,000 for the apartment at Ruby Court.
On September 5 2020, Okoth said his life was in danger after ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna allegedly led an attack on him. The incident was linked to the collapsed impeachment of Governor Okoth Obado sanctioned by the ODM after he was charged with corruption alongside his children.
“My life is in danger over what is happening in Migori. I am a sick man, I have been ailing for a very long time. I am wondering why hired goons are making threats on my life. When the desperation goes this low, until I am attacked in a far-off land, then I have to fear for my life. Why would people speculate on what I am doing, yet I am only a Speaker of the House?
Early that week, ODM Chairman, John Mbadi, said that the Party, which sponsored Obado’s re-election bid in the August 8, 2017 general election, had lost faith in the county chief due to his alleged involvement in graft, and that it wanted the governor impeached.
Sifuna, according to Okoth, led a group of kids to his Ruby Court apartment around 11 p.m. During the incident, his bodyguard was hurt. Okoth, who has been ill for over a year, has been staying at the flat for five months.
“I was admitted at Kisumu Aga Khan Hospital and then taken to Nairobi Hospital before coming back to Aga Khan for dressing and physiotherapy,” he said.
His right leg underwent a skin graft, Okoth said. But Sifuna denied the allegations. “I don’t even know what he is speaking about. Let him stop sideshows,” he said in a text message.
