Residents of Bonchari have declared their newly-elected Member of Parliament Pavel Oimeke a missing person.
Citing recent unprecedented disappearance from the public scene, voters have requested his representatives to issue an official statement on their legislator’s whereabouts.
From social media posts by a section of his distraught electorate, it is understood that the disgraced former Director General at the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has not made an appearance in any of his designated offices.
Efforts to look for him in both his rural and Kajiado residence have constantly proven futile.
Even an impromptu check-up at one of his slay queen’s houses in Nyanchwa, Kisii County, did not bear any fruit.
“The area MP since we elected him: He is not in parliament, Not in the constituency, Not in his office, not at his rural home, not at his official residence in Kajiado County, Not in his slayqueen’s house in Nyanchwa,” a Bonchari resident wrote in a Facebook post seen by kenyanbulletin.com.
Fears are now rapidly growing within his community that a terrible tragedy could have quietly befallen their leader.
“Is our member of Parliament for Bonchari constituency Pavel Obwoto Oimeke death or he is in prison or admitted at ICU?” read the final part of the post.
Following his shameful resignation from EPRA, Oimeke took his loot to politics, where he succesfully conested the Bonchari seat on an ODM ticket defeating twelve candidates.
As residents continued to scratch their heads over his whereabouts, a Nairobi court recently heard how Anti-corruption officials seized thousands of shillings from Oimeke who had received it a bribe.
Mike Mbuvi, an officer from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), told the court that he seized Sh200,000 from Oimeke on December 12, 2020, which had been handed to him by a petroleum dealer.
Mr Mbuvi said the money was given by Wycliffe Odhiambo whom Oimeke had asked to give a bribe of Sh500,000.
Senior Principal Magistrate Peter Ooko heard that EACC officials laid a trap for the former EPRA boss and arrested him after he received the money.
Oimeke was arrested in his office in Upperhill, Nairobi.
Odhiambo had reported to EACC that Oimenke had demanded a bribe for him to authorise the reopening of a Petrol station in Oyugis Homa Bay County.
The EACC officer produced in court the money seized as exhibits in the case.
The court heard that the MP had requested the bribe via a text on Signal message app.
The anti-corruption officers said they had armed the complainant with a recording device to capture their conversation with Oimenke and there was prove that he received the money.
Pavel Oimeke’s representatives, claimed that the legislator has been on a foreign trip to Israel which is why he has been unable to attend to his residents.
But despite flying back in time to attend Uhuru Kenyatta’s final State of The Nation address, he is yet to set foot in Bonchari.
