Embattled Sonko to discharge his duties from home

Embattled Nairobi Gover Mike Mbuvi Sonko has said that he will discharge his gubernatorial duties from his home as he complies with the court order that has barred him from accessing his City Hall office.
Sonko said in a statement that he is very much committed to carry out his duties and urged all stakeholders to troop his Maua, Riverside or Upper Hill homes for county meetings.
The county boss appeared to be lashing out at the order issued by Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogot of the anti corruption court.
“From the precedence of Justice Mumbi Ngugi, Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogot barred me from accessing my office” Sonko said in a statement.
He added that the unpopular judgement was made because there was fear that his presence at his offices would interfere with the evidence.
Chief Magistrate Ogot gave very strict conditions under which the governor can visit his city hall office. The governor can only access his offices escorted by an investigating officer in charge or an authorised officer.
Sonko is facing 19 charges in two different files. The prosecution is accusing him of colluding with rogue businessmen and senior officials in his administration to embezzle over sh 380 million.
He was released on a Sh15 million or an alternative bond of Sh30 million with a surety of similar amount on December 11.
He assured Nairobians that he is reachable as he asked them to pray for him not to fall into temptations.
