In a post on his Facebook, the journalist who is now a full-time student again at Columbia University in New York, United States, broke his social media silence to acknowledge the nomination for a feature he had presented while working at BBC.

“Back from a 2-month social media break to learn that a BBC radio documentary I presented was nominated for an award! I loved working on it and I’m so glad people around the world enjoyed it,” he stated.

The documentary titled, Stories From the Silk Road based on the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) which he presented with Peter Shevlin was nominated for the Association for International Broadcasting (AIBs) in the Daily Journalism Daily Report category.

Some of the programmes shortlisted for the AIBs Awards that will be held on Wednesday, November 6.

“Cutting the time between Mombasa and Nairobi from 10 hours to 4.5 hours. Chinese interests may be at the centre of these investments – but the impact is regional, how is the Kenyan population benefiting from this new service?” the broadcast sought to establish.

Larry’s production will face off against Fire at Notre Dame Cathedral produced by Bloomberg Radio, La caida de un Vicepresidente (the fall of a Vice President) – Radio Mitre, Before the Trial on Trial – Radio Television Hong Kong and Checkpoint – How Hard is it to Plant trees for a living? by RNZ.

The AIBs are the international awards for factual television, radio, audio and online productions in any language.

The last post the award-winning journalist made on social media before his latest update was on September 4.
