Oguna says ongoing development projects will improve Kenyans livelihood – KBC

The National Government is ramping up investment in transport infrastructure in the Counties in a bid to upgrade the Country from a low to a middle-income economy.

This the Government says will lower the cost of doing business and improve the livelihood of Kenyans.

Government Spokesman Cyrus Oguna says the Government is expanding the road network in the country as well as constructing air and dry ports to lower transportation costs for farmers in high agricultural productive areas.

He says these projects will give the Country the desired competitive edge against her neighbors in the East Africa region for local and foreign investment.

Speaking while on a tour to assess Government projects in Nakuru County, Oguna said the last 9 years, the Government has expanded the country’s bitumen standard road network to 7,000 kilometers in a development that is already shoring up rural economies.

Col. Oguna said the National Government is constructing transport infrastructure worth Ksh 2 Billion to alleviate suffering among farmers in Nakuru County.

He cited the Ksh 406 Million Nakuru Airport that is under construction at the Lanet Barracks, the Ksh 340 Million 20 kilometer Moi South Lake road in the lake side town of Naivasha and the Ksh 1.1 Billion Elementaita- Mau Narok road.

Oguna observed that the 1.7 kilometer Nakuru airport will be a game changer in a region whose economy is reliant on tourism and agriculture and will provide job opportunities.

He noted that the Moi South Lake road in Naivasha will boost the area’s economy that heavily relies on floriculture, commercial fishing and tourism.

Oguna said the roads under construction in the area will enhance the development of other amenities like markets, hospitals, stadiums and schools.

The spokesman said the Government has enlisted services of local contractors in the spirit of buying and building Kenya.

Nakuru County Commissioner Erastus Mbui observed that the development projects will help open up rural areas for increased jobs and wealth creation as well as encourage integration among residents from various parts of the country.

He asked members of the public to exercise vigilance against vandalism and misuse of the projects upon completion saying this will ensure later generations benefit from the expensive and valuable projects.
